Both club teams clinch podium finishes at Blue Cap abbvie Relay Run for Prostate Cancer

On 29 November 2015, Blue Cap Movement held its first annual Blue Cap Relay Run and Health Carnival at University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. The main purpose of the run was to promote men's health and to raise funds in support of prostate cancer treatment. There were six categories in the 3 x 3 km relay run which were Open, Mixed Women, Mixed 55, The 50s, Cancer survivor and Family Run.

Our club sent two teams and both did very well to get on the podium. The Men Open team emerged as 1st runner up while the Mixed Team emerged as Champion. Congratulations!

Special thanks to Ronnie See, the club's Racing Team Men's Captain for selecting and organising the teams.

See below for details. We look forward to your confirmation before 27 December 2015.

Back to Planetarium carpark

On Saturday, 7.30am, the Saturday Beginners Group met at the Planetarium car park, where we used to meet in the past. Welcome to those joining us for the first time at this venue, Joseph, Dorothy, Chong T O, Lee, Shueh Mei and Vivien. Many of us like this place for its quiet surrounds and little vehicular traffic. As usual, after the run, we adjourned to Shangrila Cafe.

Hope to see more newbies in future.

I started running about 2 years ago. I did my first 10k at Great Eastern run in Johor Bahru in Dec 2013 and my first half marathon in May 2014 at the Sundown Singapore. I was coaxed into doing my full Marathon, the Penang Bridge International Marathon, the same year by a friend who told me “the registration fees is only an additional RM10 & I get an extra finishing Tshirt”. The gullible me bought the rational and did my first full marathon in excruciating 7 hours. Nevertheless I enjoyed the experience.

I always loved swimming and was introduced to open water swimming last year. I joined the Kapas Marang Swimathon which is a 6.5km swim from Pulau Kapas to Marang, Terenganu to challenge myself.

I thought to myself, "if I could already run and swim, why not cycle as well?" Hence I bought my bicycle in Oct 2014 but only started cycling regularly in the middle of this year. Swimming, cycling and running helps me to relax and be more positive towards life. It is a great way to make new friends. I knew very few people in KL as I just relocated here in June this year. These activities have made me new friends like the runners from Saturday Beginners Group.

Losing weight doing all these activities is also a bonus. I have lost about 13kgs and am a lot leaner since I started 2 years ago, so I feel less guilty eating my favourite spicy foods & mee rebus Johor.

I get a sense of euphoria when I cross the finishing line. The feeling is more intense in tougher events, like a full marathon or half ironman. I am not a fast runner nor cyclist so I cannot compete on speed. Instead, I like to do endurance sports because this is where mental power overcomes everything.

In sports, my inspiration is Sister Madonna Buder. She is currently the record holder for the oldest woman to complete a full Ironman race. She is a late starter, started running only at the age of 48 and triathlon at the age of 52. Despite many challenges, she was persistent & never gave up pursuing her dream. She is a classic example of 'never too old & never too late' to start something.

3rd place in my category at 2km open water swim event at Port Dickson on 29th Nov.

Club's Breakfast Run among paddy fields

Our members took their families for a fun run cum holiday in Sekinchan last Sunday. The club wishes to thank the headmaster of SRJK (C) Yoke Kuan, Mr Lee, for graciously allowing us to have our breakfast in the school canteen.

Many of the runners came on Saturday and visited Ah Ma House, Paddy Gallery, Pantai Redang and Mango King.

This is not just a pretty picture, it is part of the important irrigation system in paddy planting.

Ah Ma House, which sells specialty cakes and biscuits.
These paddy fields will be ready for harvesting in about 2 weeks.

A rice farmer telling us that rice crop takes between 90 to 100 days from planting to harvest. The "Pearl" variety is not allowed to be planted in Malaysia because of pests. Harvesting is done by large rice harvesters like to one below, which was parked a short distance away.

Yummy breakfast of rice porridge, yau cha kwai, braised taukwa and soya sauce stewed eggs

The Mango King shop, where we were given samples of very nice ciku - not too sweet. We then bought a one kg bag of it for RM10.
